Rij is now part slave, part pet? Weird...
His face in panel 5 is great though : D Looks like it's the first time anyone has pet him.
Interesting twist. I'm interested in how this is going to work, but I trust you. BoA was awesome, but I'm all for changes here and there
*** SPOILER ALERT ***
(Sorry folks, I forgot there are people here who haven't read the books!)
I don't like the removal of the episode where Flame is accidentally killed by Atrus' experiments. It was a sad, poignant, and I think important part of BoA. Atrus learns early on that he must be careful with his experiments and creations, that his curiosity and intellect can have serious unintended consequences, something Gehn has never learned. I'm hoping this lesson is merely postponed until later, and not entirely skipped.
EDIT: Although I suppose the incident with the battery covers this topic adequately. Maybe I'm being too critical. And I do like that cat. (-:
Aww, poor Flame - she's got competition!
@Marein: Naw, Gehn scritches his head on the last page
Rij's character raises an interesting question which hadn't really entered the Myst lore before - how common were encounters with semi-humanoid civilizations (aside from the Bahro, an anomaly)? Flame's disapproval is very clear, but even Anna seems surprised and a bit overwhelmed/nauseous, and she would have had more experience than anyone else with this kind of thing.
Whatever's going on is being handled very well, though, the expressions bring the mood of the encounter over perfectly. Gehn seems boastful of his "curiosity", Anna looks like she just met Cthulhu, and Atrus is more curious than frightened. Very excited to see how this develops!
Lol - Rijs face at being petted.
Anyhow - the more I think about it, I think it's good to throw in some more semi-humanoid creatures. I find it hard to believe that all the ages link to worlds with beings like us. Closest things we get in the games are the Bah'ro and the Tree-Dwellers of Channelwood.
Now branching into the Comic books (mainly, Black Ships) the characters used there weren't quite human.
But still - few and far between. Anyhow, keep it up - I want to see where this is going.
I was also curious on when Flame would die. Because I knew that part in the book really upset me and I remember it well. I forgot exactly WHEN it happened, but I remember it was after an experiment. Perhaps Miss Lark didn't have the heart to do it. I don't blame her! :(
Anna, to Gehn:
"Oh, I see! YOU're not going to care for Atrus at all; after all these years I'm suddenly supposed to entrust his care to this CREATURE that neither Atrus nor I know anything about?"
Anna, I'm tellin' ya, it's time to take out your ninja sword and end this crap once and for all, before it's too late!
Poor kitty, s/he is jelaous. :c
GEHN YOU ARE DRIVING THEM APART. And don't try making reparations now, you are just going to say "BUT I HAD A GOOD REASON TO", gosh darn it!
